꽃샘추위가 기승을 부리던 며칠 전, 낮엔 더웠는데 초저녁이 되면서 갑자기 바람이 불고 쌀쌀해지자 얼큰하고 시원한 국물이 간절하게 생각났다. 찬 바람이 코끝을 스치는 저녁, 친구의 추천으로 대전 유성구 반석동로 40번길에 위치한 ‘대구왕뽈찜’을 찾았다. 간판에서부터 풍기는 믿음직한 분위기. ‘The 맛있는 집’이라는 타이틀이 눈에 확 들어왔다.

식당 안으로 들어서자 아늑하고 정갈한 실내 분위기가 손님을 편안하게 맞이한다. 자리에 앉아 메뉴판을 펼쳐보니 다양한 대구요리들이 눈길을 끈다. 고민 끝에 내가 고른 메뉴는 ‘대구탕(11,000원)’. 점심 특선으로는 10,000원에 제공되지만, 나는 기본 메뉴를 주문했다. 얼큰하고도 깊은 맛이 기대되는 순간이었다.

주문한 지 얼마 되지 않아 따끈한 공깃밥과 함께 뚝배기에 담긴 대구탕이 등장했다. 자작하게 끓고 있는 국물에서 피어오르는 향만으로도 벌써 군침이 돌았다. 탕 안에는 큼직한 대구 살과 무, 콩나물, 미나리, 대파가 푸짐하게 들어 있었고, 얼큰한 양념이 뚝배기를 가득 채우고 있었다.

한 숟갈 국물을 떠 입에 머금는 순간, 몸 안 깊숙한 곳까지 따뜻함이 번진다. 얼큰하지만 자극적이지 않고, 뒷맛이 깔끔하다. 맵기 조절이 가능한 곳이라 ‘보통맛’으로 주문했는데, 매운 음식을 즐기지 않는 사람에게도 딱 좋을 정도의 칼칼함이다. 큼직한 대구 살은 살짝 젓가락으로 건드리면 쉽게 풀릴 정도로 부드럽고 촉촉하다. 뼈와 살이 잘 분리되어 먹기 편한 점도 매력적이었다.

함께 제공된 밑반찬도 하나같이 정갈했다. 김치, 깍두기, 콩나물무침, 멸치볶음 등 소박하지만 정성 가득한 반찬들이 국밥과 조화를 이뤘다. 무엇보다 밥 한 숟갈에 국물과 대구 살, 무를 올려 함께 먹으니 그야말로 든든하고 만족스러운 한 끼가 완성됐다.

메뉴판을 자세히 보니 대구뽈찜, 아구찜, 고니해물찜 등도 인기 메뉴로 구성돼 있었고, 점심 특선으로는 9천 원대의 합리적인 가격에 ‘속시원한 대구지리’나 ‘얼큰한 대구탕’을 제공하고 있어 부담 없이 즐길 수 있는 점도 인상적이었다. 추가로 고니나 야채 등을 더해 더욱 풍성한 식사도 가능하다.

포장과 배달도 가능한 점은 바쁜 일상 속에서도 집에서 따뜻한 한 끼를 즐기기에 좋을 듯했다. 점심시간에는 회사원들, 가족 단위 손님들로 북적이는 걸 보니 이미 입소문이 꽤나 난 맛집이라는 걸 실감할 수 있었다.

무엇보다 식당 사장님과 직원들의 친절한 응대가 식사의 만족도를 더했다. 식당을 나서며 명함을 하나 챙겼다. ‘권오형’ 사장님의 이름이 적힌 명함 속에는 예약 전화번호와 주소가 함께 기재되어 있었다.

One day, I desperately thought of a spicy and cool soup. On an afternoon when the cold wind blew past my nose, I visited braised jumbo codfish head, located on 40beon-gil, Banseok-dong-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, on my friend's recommendation. The reliable atmosphere from the signboard. The title "The Delicious House" caught my eye.

As I entered the restaurant, a cozy and neat indoor atmosphere greeted the customer comfortably. As I sat down and opened the menu, various Daegu dishes caught my eye. After much consideration, the menu I chose was "Daegu Soup (11,000 won). The lunch special is offered at 10,000 won, but I ordered the basic menu. It was a moment when I was looking forward to the spicy and deep taste.

Not long after ordering, a cod soup in an earthen pot appeared along with a hot bowl of rice. My mouth has already made my mouth water just by the scent of the soup rising from the boiling broth. The soup contained a lot of large cod flesh, radish, bean sprouts, water parsley, and green onions, and the hot seasoning filled the earthen pot.

The warmth spreads to the depths of your body as soon as you take a spoonful of soup in your mouth. It's spicy, but not irritating, and the aftertaste is clean. I ordered 'normal taste' because it is a place where you can adjust the spiciness, but it is perfect for those who do not enjoy spicy food. Large cod meat is soft and moist enough to easily untangle when touched with chopsticks. It was also attractive that the bones and flesh were easily separated and easy to eat.

The side dishes served together were neat. Simple but sincere side dishes such as kimchi, kkakdugi, bean sprout salad, and stir-fried anchovies were in harmony with the rice soup. Above all, eating a spoonful of rice with soup, cod flesh, and radish on it completed a truly hearty and satisfying meal.

Looking closely at the menu, the popular menu included steamed cod pollack, steamed monkfish, and steamed Goni seafood. It was also impressive that you could enjoy the lunch without any burden, as it offered "Fresh Daegu Geography" or "Spicy Daegu Soup" at a reasonable price of 9,000 won. In addition, you can have a richer meal by adding Goni or vegetables.

The availability of takeout and delivery seemed to be a good place to enjoy a warm meal at home even in a busy daily life. At lunchtime, it was crowded with office workers and family customers, so I realized that it was already a famous restaurant.

Above all, the friendly reception of the restaurant owner and staff added to the satisfaction of the meal. As I left the restaurant, I took a business card. On the business card with the name of CEO Kwon Oh-hyung, the reservation phone number and address were also included.
